Profile:
The AIDS Treatment Activists Coalition (ATAC) is a national non-profit AIDS advocacy group working to end the AIDS epidemic by advancing research on HIV/AIDS treatment, and ultimately a cure. The organization brings together people with HIV/AIDS, government, industry and academia in matters affecting research, treatment and access.

History:
ATAC was established in 2001 by a group of HIV treatment educators, treatment activists, and advocates for wider access to treatment through AIDS Drug Assistance Programs.

Mission:
The goals of ATAC are to:

- Encourage greater and more effective involvement of people with HIV/AIDS in the treatment and research decisions that affect their lives

- Develop within all communities affected by HIV/AIDS and related infections the leadership to provide the knowledge and skills needed to advocate for improved research, treatment and access to care.

- Enable treatment activists to speak with a united, powerful voice to provide meaningful input into issues concerning HIV disease and related complications and co-infections

- Facilitate communications and set agenda items with: government, industry and academia in matters affecting research, treatment and access; the larger HIV community in keeping up to date with the latest developments in research, treatment and access.
